Essay

Nowadays, technology is all around us and it is an undeniable fact that it has taken over our lives. However, there is a positive and a negative side to every story including technology, The question is: which parts of our daily lives have been impacted on the most?

Firstly, technology has changed the way we conduct our relationships. The positive side is that we can find new friends online who are of the same mind and it is easier to maintain long-distance relationships with our friends and family around the globe via Skype or Facebook. On the other hand, we often spend too much time online, rather than meeting new people in real life. In addition, our social skills can deteriorate and that can lead to loneliness and depression. Furthermore, social networks can become addictive and of course there is the question of our privacy as people share everything online.

When it comes to the workplace, the main advantage is that we can work from home, which enable us to have a balance between our private and professional lives. Moreover, conference calls are a great way of communicating with our business partners as we don't need to be physically present at meetings. On the downside, working at home requires more discipline because we can procrastinate and be distracted by other less important things. Also, because we work from home, we are often expected to be online 24/7 and to solve problems immediately.

To sum up, in my opinion relationships have been the most influenced by technology as we feel the need to constantly stay in touch via social media. The irony is that although we are more connected to people, we are more distant and lonely than ever.
