Cambridge English Advanced Practice Tests 2015: Test 6, Writing Part 2 - Report

Task: Your new college careers advisor wants to provide more help for students leaving the college, and has asked older students for their suggestions. Write a report explaining the facilities currently available, describe those that have been most useful to you and suggest any improvements that could be made in providing information and access to work experience.

Report on giving more assistance to students leaving college

Introduction
The aim of this report is to
  •  outline present services available
  • say what has been most helpful for me
  • recommend what can be done better when it comes to the availability of  information and access to internships.
Current facilities
There is a career advice center where students usually go when they need information. However, the people who work there have other duties at the college and aren't fully informed about everything. Furthermore, every year the college organises a work fair which enables students to directly talk to employees/employers in various sectors, get informed and maybe even get an internship or a job.

What help me
When it comes to me personally, the work fair is probably the best method of getting all the major companies at one place and having the opportunity to talk to important people from the business world. Also, some of the organisations at the college arranged similar fairs which allowed me to talk to students and gain some knowledge about the possibilities available to me.

Recommendations
I would suggest making improvements to the career center by employing full-time staff specifically for the task of providing relevant and up-to-date information concerning internships as well as master studies abroad. More importantly, I would advise the college to make their website more user-friendly and include information about work experience and further studies. In addition, making connections with local companies is something that would be of great benefit to students in the long-term period.

Conclusion
The recommendations above would be simple to implement and would definitely improve the lives of students leaving the college.
