Essay

Sport has always been an important part of our lives. However, due to the pace of our lives today, and our sedentary lifestyle, we are becoming less and less active. This essay will focus on two methods of encouraging people of all age groups to take part in sporting activities.

Firstly, it is vital that there are adequate facilities available for recreational purposes. Unfortunately, there are none, especially in rural areas. Therefore the government should solve this problem and ensure that the price of classes are affordable for everyone. Furthermore, there should be a variety of sports, not only for children and teenagers, but also for the middle-aged and the elderly. Another idea would be to provide free aerobic and yoga classes, as well as tennis and football classes, etc., especially during the summer months.

Another suggestion would be to have disparate events which involve celebrities from the sporting world. This can be very effective, particularly during the summer when events can be held outdoors and more people can participate. While I can see some benefits, these can be outweighed by the fact that the idea might only appeal to children and young people, rather than everyone.

Given these points, I strongly believe that sportspeople play a huge role as they are regarded as role models and can have a great influence on people in general.
