Cambridge English Advanced Practice Tests 2015: Test 2, Writing Part 2 - Report

Task: You have just finished a short period of work in a company abroad as part of your business course. You have now been asked to write a report for your course organiser.
In your report you should explain what you did and how you benefited from the period of work, describe any problems you had and make recommendations for other students on the business course who will be working in the same company abroad later.

Report on working in an international company

Introduction
The aim of this report is to outline my work experience gained abroad, advantages and disadvantages and whether I would recommend the firm to other students.

Duties
I was assigned to a large office in the city centre in order to gain experience in marketing. My duties involved learning different methods of making advertisements and implementing them on the social media site. Moreover, I participated in specific projects aimed at building up new audience which was invaluable as it was connected to my main subject of study.

Benefits and drawbacks
I gained a great deal from seeing various marketing styles in action, which enabled me to put the theoretical aspects of the course into a practical context. This experience also taught me to be independent and responsible, and in the economics world it is crucial to experience the working environment of another country. The only problem I found was adopting to the cultural differences as I was there for a short period of time.

Recommendations
I would suggest making contact with members of the office before joining them as well as asking for an overview of the office culture. Furthermore, I think it would be more beneficial if the period was extended to two months and involved working in at least one other department.

Conclusion
In short, I feel confident in recommending this course to further interested students as it was a life changing experience and I acquired lots of skills.
