Nowadays, it is vital to read various genres of books because they expose you to new vocabulary and topics. This essay will focus on two such genres, fiction and history.
First, when we talk about fiction, it is important to mention that by reading it you learn a great deal about people and relationships in general. Furthermore, almost every character has some kind of problem and their mission is to solve it, so you will discover how to deal with different life situations. Moreover, when it comes to the classics, your vocabulary and sentence structure will improve and you will also learn a lot about the suffering of previous generations.
With regard to history, you can gain knowledge about different nations and their rulers. For example, their lifestyle and how they treated the common people. In addition, you will be able to acquire knowledge about wars, their consequences and how territories were divided and conquered. Also, history books are essential in order to avoid making the same mistakes as our ancestors. While I can see some benefits from reading these kinds of books, they may be outweighed by the fact that they are complicated collections of facts, which can be found on the Internet in a summarised form.
To sum up, I feel that reading fiction books is more important in today's world as you will gain a lot of general knowledge which will certainly be useful in your life. Furthermore, it is a far more enjoyable way to learn and it is the best way to get young people interested in reading.
